It’s been almost three years since I graduated and I must say life is way different! Part of me yearns to do HS all over again to do better and appreciate everything I had while I was here. But I have learned much and gained much experience and wisdom by making some of the choices i’ve made. I would like to say that I appreciate this school and its faculty during my time here for everything they did for me and I would like to apologize for the wrongs I made and how I treated some of the staff and faculty. Everything happens for a reason and i can say I'm content with all the knowledge I gained and experiences I had. Miss Alvarez thank you for all the chances and time you gave me to keep progressing as a student and young man in general.

Thanks to this wonderful school I was able to succeed in so many ways. my friends been there for me all through my four years here and we all graduated with paths to higher opportunities. Thanks to AVHS I have gained and seen my good potential in the world.

It was a great year! I worked hard with the help of this school. If it wasn’t for AVHS I wouldn’t have graduated and met so many amazing people. I met friends here that have lasted after high school.

Hey Alta Vista, I was a student that moved from Madrid, Spain to Tucson due to my parents work. I moved here starting my freshman year. As you would assume I spoke no English whatsoever back in that time. Alta Vista was a tremendous help to me I learned a lot with you guys but most important is that I learned English and that I went from a 0% to almost an 85%-90%. Therefore, I am greatly grateful with the teachers, staff, students, friends from this school that helped me become a better person and helped me increase my education.
*If you are reading this you may be a new student. Let me tell you that if you stay in this school you won’t regret it. You will probably miss out on some good events regular schools have and won’t have those nice memories once you are an adult but, you will get a better education, an education that might be twice as better than the one you would get at a regular high school. At the end education is better than good memories and it will take you further.Take this advice from a student who went from a 0 to a 100 in the course of 4 years. I just came back from Basic Training and tech-school my job as an Airman is now a Nation Resource Manager and I love it.
AVHS has been a good school I enjoyed learning respect and responsibility. AVHS also helped me prepare for the real world…...US ARMY HOO-RAH!

A Great place where many great memories were made, make the most of each opportunity, it will pay off I promise.
Alta Vista, This school made my high school experience awesome. I made so many friends here, the teachers are all amazing at teaching, I already miss going to class every day. This school helped me learned a lot about myself and others. I am currently in Pima a program called “The Wild cats” at Pima. I get the same things that a U of A student gets, a cat card and everything. I am studying to become a nurse or teacher for special children. I want to do this because my little cousin inspires me and I want to help children. I cant wait to graduate college and start helping kids good luck to all of the high school kids and go to college! “You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but If you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.” – Clay P. Bedford
-Class of 2012 Chantelle Marcus-
I’ve been just great! Thanks for all the lessons I learned here at AVHS. It has made me a better and more mature person. If it wasn’t for this school and its positive and great support, I would still be home, doing nothing but playing video games. Thanks to all the teachers and staff for the awesome two years I was here.
Hey Alta Vista, I am here today for a letter of recommendation for a new job at a daycare. Hopefully, I can get it so I can go back to college to be a social worker. I live on my own with my boyfriend and I have no kids. I will be getting married next year so I’ll see you guys soon with an invitation. It was nice seeing you guys again. Thanks for everything!

AVHS, the staff will never give up on you if you want an education! Without them, I couldn’t be where I am today. Now I am in the United State Marines, without the education I received from Alta Vista High School. I wouldn’t be as proud of myself as I am today.I had a blast coming here; I made the right choice to come to Alta Vista. The staff is great, they made me wake up motivated each day to come to school. I could never repay you, but thank you for making me and educating me as well. I will never forget!! Your best student,

Hello, to my teachers who made a HUGE impact on my life! I truly miss the old days when I was in high school walking on the sidewalks of AVHS! L I will always remember every face I saw and became friends with. I also want to thank every teacher that helped me get through my four years of high school. Thank you so very much! CLASS of 2011!!! AVHS LOBOS ARE THE BEST!! Love,
It all started in the 9th grade. I saw this beautiful girl, that’s why I never left Alta Vista. She was my high school sweetheart, the best 4 years ever… I miss the good times we all had in our 4 years, chilling, talking, and playing with the teachers, we all became like a big family. 2011 was a sad year but, a year to remember forever... -Class of 2011-
To this day, I have continued to play my accordion and recently the tuba in a band; it is sure a fun thing to do… I am also going to school and going after my dream in becoming a pilot and have the chance to fly. My moments at Alta Vista where life changing and made me become a better person. I have also had the enough amount of money to buy myself a car and learn to be responsible of it. Now that I look at it, it’s kind of hard but I am open for any challenge it brings me.

There are so many memories in this school that I will never forget and I have taken them to my grown-up life. This was the best school and still is, I will always remember it. I am now 25 years old (wow, 7 years ago I graduated), married to a wonderful man with a 2 and a half son, Nikolas. I will be going back to college again and would highly encourage you (or whoever may read this) to stay in college!! Do not drop out!! I can’t believe I graduated in 3 years after an accident in ’09. Thanks I have a lot of good memories! -Class of 2010 Justin Gregory-
This school was a big step for me. A big step towards my new future, lots of memories were enjoyed here and never will be forgotten. As a student, I thought high school was everything, but years later I realized it was just the beginning. Sometimes it’s not all about grades and academics that defines you as a student, but the relationships you build with teachers, staff and friends (also lovers) that remind you of the big crazy family you become here. Class of 2007 was truly unique and can never be forgotten. Always and forever -Jose Sanchez-
Now being back feels as if I never left, it feels as if it was yesterday that I was sitting in Mr. Meyer’s government class listening to his lectures…thanks to the teachers and staff here. I was always shown how much my education is truly worth. Alta Vista helped me turn around my life for the better, and that will never be forgotten; along with all the memories that remain.
First off, GO LOBOS!!! I really miss Alta Vista! If it wasn’t for all of the staff and support I wouldn’t be where I am at today. Where am I now you may ask? I am currently in my last month of college at Brookline. I look forward to moving on with my life. After this month, off to the U of A I go! -Anna Marie Clardy-
Hello again Alta Vista! I came to visit of course because I miss high school life more than anything. I never thought I would miss it as much as I do now. Words of advice? Enjoy it while you can! It feels good to come in and all the things I accomplished while I was here. It’s good to see everyone still coming to visit. As of right now, I’m working. This is why I say enjoy while you can. Some are fortunate enough to get help outside of high school and some like (me) are not. I hope I continue coming back to see more signatures in this book! -Class of 2008 Selina Sanchez-
Good to see you again; it was awesome being a student here. Be back to visit ASAP. Going to the USMC so see you after boot camp. -Class of 2009 Eric Valdez-
Todo ha estado muy bien. Got a job, and saving more money for college which I would hopefully start in January. Then I plan to transfer to a culinary school. -Class of 2010 Jennifer Hernandez-
I would like to say this school changed me to the fullest. I came here being a gang member and as I was going to Alta Vista High School I learned that this life was not what I wanted. I wanted the best things in life and that was by succeeding at this school. Also, when I first came here I didn’t like anyone, not even myself, but as I started to see that all these people wanted to see me be someone in this life, I started to change and loving things in a different way. This school gave me something that I thought I would never get and that was MY diploma! Also, my baby girl changed me and made me think that I don’t want that life I was living anymore. I want to raise my child as good as I can. Also, I was a very negative person, all the staff and teachers and Mrs. Alvarez made me think that I can do everything and I became a better person, not negative but a positive person.
Now that I am out of high school, I am back in school, but, now it’s in college. This time I am going to finish on time because I really want it for me and my baby. I want her to see that her daddy was a bad person but, but he changed for her and my own good. I would like to say thank you all for believing in me and giving me the chance to prove to you that I was serious about graduating.
This is how I felt but now I am very thankful. Thanks for putting all that energy and time in me; it was worth it even though I was a punk sometimes. Thank you all and miss you all and this school. -Jose F. Amaya-Medina-

As I was reading these journal entries, I was amazed at everyone’s reflection. It’s been almost four years since graduation, everyone has been so busy. I graduated with my bachelors from the U of A last May (2011). Right now, I am working on my master’s degree in education. I am student teaching at AVHS. It’s so different from this perspective. I finish my Master’s in Education in May of 2012. I keep telling students to enjoy their time in High School. I hope they read the other journal entries. (We all say the same thing because it’s true). We all had good times here. My goal is to finish my Ph. D in 3-4 more years. -Class of 2008 Anaid Jordan Barrera-
I’m glad I came to visit Alta Vista, so many memories are left at this school. I had the best of the best experiences in this high school. I feel this school made the best out of me and I actually came each day to do my best. Even though it’s not the same staff here anymore, 2008 staff members were and are the best. As well as the principal from AVHS, she remains with her head up, making the best for each and every student. Up to now, I’m still going to school pursuing my degree in Management Engineering and I’m about to join military services (navy) to make a better person out of myself, (a bit more never hurts). So hopefully this won’t be my last visit to this wonderful school. To all the new staff, keep up your great work this school is awesome. NO REGRETS!!!!!
