PARKING PERMIT
Students who want to park their personal vehicles in the AVHS student parking lot must obtain a student parking permit in the front office. In order to obtain a parking permit for the school year, a student must present a valid driver's license, proof of registration and insurance. A student driving multiple vehicles must register each vehicle.
PEACEFUL RESOLUTIONS TO CONFLICT
Fighting on our campus or school related areas such as bus stops or adjacent buildings will not be tolerated. If a student anticipates a problem of any kind which may lead to a fight, he or she should contact the principal or an assistant principal immediately. Fighting on or near campus or a school-sponsored event will result in notification to the authorities and a possible suspension or expulsion from Alta Vista High School.
PERSONAL PHONE CALLS
In accordance with the AVHS Electronic Device Policy, students are not allowed to place or receive personal phone calls during class hours. Emergency calls from parents/guardians will be taken by the front office and students will be notified immediately.
PUBLIC DISPLAY OF AFFECTION
Being overly affectionate in school is not in good taste and will not be allowed. AVHS recognizes that genuine feelings of affection may exist between students. However, students should refrain from inappropriate, intimate behaviors on campus or at school related events & activities. Students are expected to show good taste and conduct themselves as ladies and gentlemen at all times. The limit for affection shown on the Alta Vista High School campus is that of holding hands.
Lewd and/or inappropriate Public Displays of Affection such as kissing, touching, etc. will not be tolerated and will result in a parent meeting and possible suspension if inappropriate behavior continues after being warned. The expression of feelings of affection toward others is a personal concern between two individuals and not of others surrounding them. Therefore, good taste and respect for others is the guideline for appropriate behavior.
RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY
Students are expected to speak and behave in a respectful and responsible manner at all times. Disrespect to teachers, staff-members and fellow students will not be tolerated. This means students may not use racist, sexist or obscene language, writing, images and gestures on campus. A lack of respect or failure on behalf of students' to take responsibility for their actions will not be tolerated... AVHS teachers, staff, and administration can help a student no more than a student is willing to work for themselves.
