The Alta Vista High School Dress Code
Students will wear clothing of mixed colors, avoiding solid colored outfits in red, gray, brown, blue, and fluorescent green.
"Banding" of colors by wearing wristbands, holding pens, coordinating shoelaces (red, gray, brown, blue, fluorescent green) in certain patterns, and revealing portions of sleeves or socks underneath clothing is prohibited.
Shirts must remain entirely tucked in while on school grounds.
Jerseys are to be left at home (students participating in athletics may be permitted to wear game uniform/jersey for assemblies or other special events, as permitted by AVHS administration).
Pajamas and slippers are to be left at home.
Short skirts, short shorts, netted shirts, half-shirts, see-through clothing, low-cut tops, open-backed shirts, and garments that expose the back or midriff are inappropriate for school and are to be left at home. If leggings are worn, a shirt-tail must be long enough to cover the area all the way to the mid-thigh.
Straps on all shirts, dresses and tops must be at least 3" wide. Muscle-tees and tank tops are inappropriate for school and are to be left at home.
Students will refrain from wearing any type of headwear while on campus. This includes bandanas, hats, du-rags, hairnets, and rollers.
Sunglasses may only be worn outside of school buildings.
Gang associated clothing (including Insane Clown Posse) and symbols on clothing, belts, etc. are strictly forbidden.
Students will refrain from wearing sagging or excessively baggy clothing. Pants and shorts must be pulled up to the waist.
Violent, vulgar, sexual references and drug/alcohol related pictures, writing and logos on clothing are strictly forbidden.
Undergarments are to remain covered at all times.
Students will refrain from wearing clothing with the following numbers: 8, 13, 14, 31, 69, 420, and 520. Additionally, any bracelets or jewelry with profane, sexual or drug related words will be confiscated from the student. (Parents must pick these up from a school administrator).
Students are expected to follow the dress code at all times while on the campus. Parents will be required to bring clothing to their student if the student’s attire is distracting to the school environment
