Attendance
Alta Vista High School has a mandatory 100% attendance policy. Arizona state law requires sixty-one and a half hours of "seat time" (amount of time student is in the classroom receiving instruction) to receive a one-half credit. If a student is absent on any day of the week, he or she is required to make-up the missed assignments within one week of returning to school.
Failure to do so may have a negative impact on the grade earned in the classroom. Student absences will be monitored by the teachers and administrative staff, and students will be held accountable. These criteria meet the state requirements for class attendance and earned credit.
All absences must be phoned into the front office by parent or guardian of the student. If Alta Vista does not receive an excused phone call from the parent or guardian of the student, then the student will be marked unexcused.
